POLICY FORUM ON ‘FUTURE SCENERIOS FOR AGRICULTURE IN SOUTHERN AFRICA’

The Trade Knowledge Network (TKN) in conjunction with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and Trades Centre (Zimbabwe), cordially invite you to a closed policy forum on the ‘Future Scenarios of Agriculture in Southern Africa’.

The objective of the forum is to look into the horizon to determine the future of agriculture by having a strategic conversation on its status in the region and brainstorming on factors that have and will in future have an impact on its growth and indentifying the key actors and stakeholders and the roles that each will play in the future of agriculture.

This is a particularly opportune moment to have this discussion, given recent food price hikes in the world that revealed the vulnerability of social and economic development in the face of food insecurity. The forum will therefore reflect on the global debate on food security, contextualize the situation in the region and analyze the responses of some countries in the region: Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and highlight trade policy instruments that impact on agriculture.

    Date: 23rd October 2008, Harare.
