Please find here the notes of a lecture provided by Dr. Thomas at the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Brief background:
Foreign direct investment can provide important opportunities for advancing economic growth and development through capital inflows and positive ‘spill-over’ effects on the wider economy and many countries are offering awide range of financial and regulatory incentives to attract increasingly mobile capital.
Dr. Thomas provides an overview of some of the most commonly used investment incentives -- with examples from around the world and the Mekong region in particular -- and review available evidence on whether such incentives have indeed delivered the anticipated developmental benefits.
